Is the rest of my family also insured?

When making your premium calculation, we ask a number of questions, including your family composition. The chosen family composition will then apply to all insurance policies you quote for.

Are my solar panels also insured?

Yes, solar panels on the roof are covered by our standard home insurance. It is important that the panels are nailed to the house or are on the flat roof. Loose panels in the garden are not covered on the home insurance. You are not insured for damage caused by incorrect fastening of the panels.

Do you also offer cancellation insurance?

Yes. By popular demand, it is now possible to choose cancellation insurance as an option with our travel insurance. We will reimburse €1,500 per insured person per trip.

For example: you have a family with two children. And suppose you are forced to go on a trip, we will pay a maximum of €1,500 x 4 = €6,000. This does still include your chosen excess.

There has to be, for example, death, serious illness or serious injury due to an accident of a partner or family.

What is covered by travel insurance?

Your travel insurance comes as standard with Deck. You can choose between Europe or World cover. Your luggage is insured up to €2,500. Fall ill during your holiday or have an accident? Medical expenses abroad are covered.

Do you like skiing? Then check the winter sports option! We will then also reimburse the cost of assistance such as transport off the slopes and a plaster flight. In addition, damage to your own or rented ski or snowboard equipment is insured up to €5,000. You have the option of adding cancellation insurance with a reimbursement of €1,500 per insured person per trip.

No deductible for medical expenses abroad

If you have an accident during your holiday abroad and need medical assistance abroad as a result, it will not be deducted from your deductible with Deck. In fact, we will also pay your deductible from your health insurance from this cover, should it be drawn on due to this accident, for example.

Deck chooses the best-fit cover for your car, motorbike or moped

Wa, Wa Casco limited, Casco (all-risk), choices, choices and more choices. Some insurers have a simple rule in terms of the age of your vehicle for which cover you can choose. Not exactly rocket science.

Deck does this smarter. There are 7 million cars in the Netherlands. So the choice of which cover for which vehicle has already been made very often. Based on this knowledge, we now also determine your cover. So you don't have to think about it either. Easy! If you do want a different cover, no problem. You can of course change it.

How does Deck's contents revaluation scheme work?

At Deck, we offer 3 packages. NN's package offers 5 years of new value on contents insurance. The new-for-old value is the amount you could buy the same or similar item new in the shop. For second-hand purchased items or for items more than 5 years old: the current market value. The package of a.s.r.offers the current market value if this value is less than 40% of the new value. This is determined with depreciation lists. For example, in the case of a laminate floor that is 5 years old and depreciates in 10 years. The value is still 50% of new value so you will receive compensation based on new value. With Rhion, we always assume the repair costs, unless repairing is more expensive than the current value. In that case, we assume cash compensation. Check the policy conditions for details.

Is my partner insured when travelling, even if we do not go together?

Yes, you can feel free to go away for weekends or holidays separately. The cover simply applies to all family members. You can specify your family composition while closing Deck. Children are also co-insured if they live away from home and are still studying.

What do we do?

At Deck, you complete your insurance directly on the internet. We make it as easy as possible for you. We do this by suggesting choices that best fit your life. This is how you build your personal "Deck". These choices are based on millions of data and years of experience of our buddies. You can set certain important personal preferences yourself, such as the coverage of your car, Europe or world coverage on your travel insurance or the amount of your deductible. You are in control. We do the rest.

When can you cancel as a Deck customer?

As a Deck customer, you can cancel on a daily basis. This is quite friendly and we are convinced that customers like to stay with us. In principle, the policy taken out and its premium are valid for one year. In case of interim changes to the package, the premium may change. At the end of the insurance year, we do the Deck Check and check whether you are still well insured at the right premium. We then compare our providers and usually you are cheaper, unless you have caused damage yourself with your car, for example. That affects your bonus malus ladder, which determines part of your premium. The new premium again applies for one year.

How does the Deck switching service work?

Deck can cancel your old insurance policies for you. Of course, you may also do it yourself.

If you choose to let us do it for you, fill in the switching tool as quickly and completely as possible after your request. That way everything will fit seamlessly with your old insurance policies and you won't pay double premiums.

Make sure you have the following information to hand when switching:

  • Policy numbers of your current insurances

  • Do you have an intermediary? Then we need his/her name.

Will Deck cancel my current insurance policies?

Yes. We are happy to help you transfer all your insurance policies so that you land safely with Deck and avoid double charges. For all insurances you put with Deck, we can take care of the cancellation.

Simply transfer with the free Deck Transfer Service

After you have been accepted, we will send you a link to our Transfer Service by email. If you fill in which insurer or intermediary you are currently with, we will take care of the rest! If you do not use the Transfer Service, we will assume that you have cancelled your insurance policies yourself or did not have any current policies.

When do the insurances take effect?

For a smooth switch, we take into account your current insurer's notice periods. This is often one month. Suppose you apply for Deck in January, then the standard effective date is 1 March. If you apply for Deck on, say, 2 May, we will set the effective date to 1 July. You can also choose to have your insurance take effect earlier or immediately. While taking out your insurance, you will be offered this option.

How to take out insurance with Deck

What is Deck?

Deck is one insurance policy for all your belongings and those of your family, including liability and your continuous travel insurance. Optionally add your legal expenses, car, motorbike or moped insurance. Deck only insures the big bad luck; damage you can't just pay for on your own. After all, that is how insurance was once created: what you cannot bear alone, you do together.

How does Deck work?

We want to prevent your premium from going up on minor breakdowns, such as lost sunglasses and broken mobile phones. This keeps your premium low. Of course, we make sure you are properly insured in case of major breakdowns.

We offer, based on your personal details, a complete package from NN, Rhion or a.s.r. For travel we use NN, for mopeds and scooters we work with Unigarant. You can always call us if you want to insure specific items, e.g. a boat, caravan or something belonging to your company.

The packages of NN, Rhion and a.s.r. offer ample cover and the conditions are similar. For buildings, for example, we always offer a guarantee against underinsurance. But there are also some differences: for example, on contents, NN offers 10-year new-for-old regulation and a.s.r. reimburses the current market value as soon as the items are worth less than 40% of the new-for-old value. Always useful to check the conditions.

If you don't, your monthly premium will automatically go up because of the bonus-malus rule (damage-free years) that applies in the Netherlands. You have the choice of taking a high excess on the (limited) hull part of the insurance.

Why are you repairing the damage and not just giving me money?

For 2 reasons:

1. So we can offer you the best service. Because we want you to get on with your life as soon as possible after a major breakdown. We therefore fix the damage for you. To do so, we use professionals so that we can guarantee quality. You have nothing to worry about!

2. This is how we keep the premium low. By repairing the damage, we also avoid unnecessary costs, keeping your premium low. By not paying out any money, we give fraudsters no chance. Is repair really impossible? Then you will get the new value of your belongings back, for example for your household contents. Unless your belongings are older. For your household effects, this limit is ten years. For items older than ten years, we can give you the current market value. This is the amount needed to buy similar items of the same quality and age.

What do I get back from Deck if something happens?

We repair the damage if we can, instead of transferring money. Is repairing really not possible? Then we will look at the value of your belongings and refund your money. Are your things older? Then you can get the current value.

How does Deck's claims work?To prevent Deck's premiums from being eaten up by minor breakdowns, we have found a few ways that both meet your desire for a competitive premium, but also ensure that you are well insured in case of major breakdowns or unexpected events.

For home & travel (buildings, contents, liability and continuous travel insurance), you can choose how much deductible you want to take at once. You have a choice of: €500, €750 and €1,000. The excess applies per event. Suppose something happens where you claim both your contents and home insurance, you only pay the deductible once.

How does this work with your vehicle?We have no deductible on the third-party part. The damage is then fully reimbursed to the other party.

For your car and motorbike, our advice is to bear all your minor breakdowns yourself if you are at fault for the damage. If you don't, your monthly premium will automatically go up because of the bonus malus rule (claim-free years) that applies in the Netherlands. You have the choice of taking a high excess on the hull part of the insurance. For your car, this is €300, €600 or €1,200 with NN and €500, €750 or €1,000 with a.s.r.

Example 1:Iris loses her €200 sunglasses in 2017 and her €350 bike is stolen. What does she get back?

Deck: nothing. This falls under minor bad luck.

Example 2:Bob's suitcases are stolen on holiday worth €1,200. A month later, he is unlucky again: his washing machine overflows, damaging the oak floor. What will he get back?

Deck: Bob has opted for a €500 deductible, getting €1,200 - €500 for the luggage and a professional parquet installer to fully repair his floor. As these are two different events, he also has to pay €500 deductible for his floor.

Example 3:A big storm caused Bart's roof to be blown off. This also caused water damage to his floor and furniture. Bart has an excess of €750.

Deck:The damage is claimed on the building and contents insurance. We will come and repair the damage to the roof, floor and furniture. He only has to pay the excess once because the damage falls under the same event.

Example 4:Gina has just bought a brand new Harley Davidson. It gets nicked.

Deck:She then gets reimbursed for the new-value, but has to pay €500 deductible. A small bummer, but a fresh chopper!

Example 5:Henry drives his 13-year-old Peugeot into his neighbour's car. A big dent results to both cars. Henry only has third-party insurance on his car.

Deck:The neighbour gets full compensation for his damage and Henry does not have to pay anything extra. For his own dent, he gets nothing. Depending on the amount of the damage, Henry may also decide to pay for the damage himself anyway, so he does not lose any claim-free years.

I have big bad luck, what should I do?

If you have a major break-in, follow these 3 steps:

  1. File a police report. It's part of the job: drop by the police so they know about the break-in at your house or car accident.

  2. Take photos. You can leave your tripod, mind you. But if you show us clearly with pictures what is going on, we can help you better.

  3. Report major breakdowns to Deck. At the click of a button on deck.co.uk, we will get to work for you. After some reassuring words, you will get some questions from us to sort things out. The "Report Damage" button on our website will show you exactly where to go!

I see that not Deck is debiting the premium from my account, but another party. How is that?

Correct, the premium is collected by Voogd & Voogd. This company runs Deck's administration and thus also takes care of collecting the premiums.

Why don't you insure minor breakdowns?

75% of all claims with insurers are under €1,000. Small breakdowns and damages. This makes insurance unnecessarily complicated and expensive. Think of all the people who are working every day processing small breakdowns. Damages of a few tens costs hundreds of euros in terms of processing. Moreover, this often involves fraud. We want to counter this behaviour at Deck, because only then will insurance become affordable again. Besides, insurance was originally not meant for minor breakdowns.

Deck is going back to the basics as insurance was once intended; together we put money in the pot for major breakdowns you cannot pay for on your own. All the small damages like glasses you lose on holiday or you drop your phone yourself, it can all be out of pocket.

At Deck, you get a great discount by choosing a high deductible yourself and placing all separate policies with one party. This also gives you an extra discount.
